2024 – Jeff Riley’s Fall Update

Even though it was just Labor Day last week, it feels to me like Fall is in full swing. My daughter, who lives in Silverthorne, sent me a picture this morning that showed the high peaks with snow and the aspen trees starting to turn yellow. That makes it official for me!

We've got some exciting things happening this Fall. First, this year’s Booklovers Ball is just two weeks away, and it promises to be one for the record books. These evenings have always been about community, passion, and our shared belief that libraries matter. For those who do not have tickets, I would love to see you there as we celebrate our love for the library and its incredible impact in and on Denver. If you are already attending, I look forward to seeing you.

Second, we’re eagerly anticipating the Grand Reopening of the Central Library on November 3, 2024. This renovation, years in the making, will be a game-changer in how we serve our community. The new spaces are designed to be more welcoming, versatile, and accessible, offering something for everyone. I can’t wait for you to see it and be a part of this exciting event. As I think about the Central Library, I think about how the library is much more than a building; it’s the heartbeat of our city, a place where stories are shared, knowledge is gained, and memories are made. For countless members of our community, the library is a source of connection, discovery, and support.

It’s been a privilege to be part of its story and witness the incredible impact it has on Denver. Which brings me to my last point in this letter; after six incredible years as Executive Director of the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation, I’ve decided to retire at the end of this year. This decision fills me with a mix of emotions, as it’s been an honor to work alongside so many passionate people on such a wonderful cause. I’m immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Thanks go to many - I'll write more about that in the next newsletter! As I prepare for this transition, I remain committed to supporting the library’s mission during this exciting time and making these final months as impactful as possible. So, don't forget to come to the Ball and join us at the Grand Reopening of the Central Library!

Your presence at these events will make them even more special.

Warm Regards,

Jeff Riley
