2025 Booklover's Ball Honorary Community Chair: Michelle Jeske
Michelle Jeske has devoted more than three decades to strengthening Denver’s communities through the transformative power of libraries. Serving as City Librarian for nearly ten years, Michelle led the Denver Public Library with vision, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to equity, innovation, and access for all. Her leadership was instrumental in securing historic funding measures and cultivating the community support that made the long-awaited renovation of the Central Library possible. Thanks to her dedication, this iconic building now stands ready to serve generations to come as a vibrant, welcoming hub for connection, learning, and creativity.
Throughout her career, Michelle championed libraries as essential civic institutions that adapt to meet the evolving needs of their communities. A steadfast believer in the library as a cornerstone of democracy, Michelle shared: “I think it's central to democracy for people to be able to have access to information, resources, knowledge, no matter what your background.” She guided DPL through moments of significant change and challenge, including the pandemic, with grace and resolve, ensuring that residents continued to have access to vital resources, technology, and services. Reflecting on that period, Michelle noted: “I think our libraries in every neighborhood allow people to come together, whether they know each other or not. Sometimes I can see people just coming in to be by themselves, but be with other people at the same time.”
Michelle’s work extended beyond the walls of the library. A champion for literacy, education, and digital equity, she nurtured strong relationships with the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation, working side by side with donors and volunteers to ensure the library’s long-term sustainability. She believed deeply in the power of community investment and inspired others to share in her vision of a stronger, more connected Denver.
As this year’s Honorary Community Ball Chair, we celebrate not only Michelle’s remarkable professional accomplishments but also the heart, generosity, and wisdom she has shared with Denver for over 30 years. Her leadership and advocacy have shaped the future of the Denver Public Library in ways that will be felt in every branch, every program, and every transformed life for generations to come.
