Volunteers are important partners in the Denver Public Library’s mission to create welcoming spaces where all are free to explore and connect. The Friends Foundation welcomes individuals and groups to explore the many volunteer opportunities at the Central Library and branches throughout Denver.

  • Book sorting and Amazon uploading volunteers work in our warehouse sorting operation at Central Library. Small groups work together for 2 – 3 hour shifts. We train you to sort books by subject, condition and value. This is a very physical role. Our volunteers love chatting about the latest find from a box they've unpacked.  We can also host small groups for a drop-in day. Amazon uploading volunteers enter books into the Amazon database that have been chosen by the book sorters to sell.
  • Used Book Sale volunteers help as needed to help set up, operate and close down book sale events at branches throughout the year.

For information about book operations volunteer opportunities, contact Andrea Hamilton via email at ahamilton@specialolympicsco.org.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

  • Group Book Sorting Opportunity: Bring up to 10 people from your organization or business to work in our book sorting space for a day. We will teach you how we sort books by condition, subject and value. Connect with your coworkers while helping the Friends Foundation raise funds for the library! For more information contact Andrea Hamilton via email or via phone at 720-865-1723.
  • The Foundation also has group volunteer opportunities at fundraisers and other events for your company or organization. Please contact Sandra Tucker via email or via phone at 720-840-3001 for more information.

Volunteer for the Library

The Denver Public Library’s Central Library and its 25 branches reflect the diversity and interests of our customers. We need volunteers for the library who will share their love of books, language and culture; and volunteers who want to work with the public and the staff to assist customers in using the library’s many resources.

To volunteer, please call the Denver Public Library Volunteer Office at 720-865-2043 or visit Volunteer Opportunities for more information.
