Meet power library user, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser. A self-described “voracious reader”, our state’s chief legal officer credits public libraries for nurturing his love of reading as well as that of his kids. Everyone’s journey to discover a passion is unique. Phil is no different in that regard; a summer abroad program inspired him to dive into books. Fun fact about Phil: his journey also includes experience as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justices Byron R. White and Ruth Bader Ginsburg (another fan of reading!).

Dedicated to the law, justice, and public service, Phil resides in Denver with his wife, Dr. Heidi Wald, and their two children. The son and grandson of Holocaust survivors, Phil finds inspiration in his family’s story of survival and resilience and weaves their lesson of hope into working toward a better future.

How have you used the Denver Public Library?

Our family loves the Library. We regularly--and pre-pandemic, on a weekly basis--would visit our local branch and consult with the librarians about reading options for my kids, both of whom have volunteered there.

What do you think is the most important role of public libraries in our current times?

We need intellectually engaged citizens more than ever. And we need community gathering places more than ever. Libraries provide both.
